Banana coco-chai smoothie
Hello hello! What plans do you have for the weekend? I’m working on the magazine this weekend (trying to finish the design), so I can start planning my photo shoots next week. Busy times ahead… So I wanted to make something quick and easy to start my day on the right foot. Here’s an anti-oxidant packed smoothie with an Indian twist. It’s got chai tea (who doesn’t love that!), cocoa powder for more anti-oxidants, chia seeds for fibre, probiotic yogurt, raw honey and my favourite ingredient – frozen bananas. Fibre…check! Fruit..check! Protein…check! And the taste…delicious!
Today’s post is inspired by Indian chai. I don’t usually make chai at home often because to make it taste right ( i.e. perfectly authentic), you need to use more sugar than you should ever have and of course, full fat milk. I think it’s quite rich and you can’t really have all that much in one go. It’s quite filling! But, I do love the flavour for chai and the rich aroma it has, so I decided to use chai in a smoothie.
Just brew some good quality aromatic chai in a little water, let it cool down and then add the other ingredients. To kick things up a notch, I added a touch of ground ginger. In India, it quite common to have adrak chai (ginger chai), so why not add it to the smoothie for a little more spice!
Here’s how to make it…..

|
- 1 chai tea bag (preferably with loose leaf tea)
- 1/3 cup hot water
- 2/3 cup plain probiotic yogurt
- 1 ripe frozen banana, peeled and sliced
- 3/4 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1/4 cup milk
- dash of vanilla extract
- honey to taste
- pinch of ground ginger
- Brew the tea in the hot water for 3-4 minutes. Strain the liquid and cool for a few minutes.
- Add the brewed tea and all the other ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!
TIP: If you haven’t frozen bananas before, I recommend you check out this post.
Anyways, off to some more work on the spring magazine! Have a great weekend everyone!

Thank you for spreading the chai love!
To make your recipe simpler and quicker, you could replace the spices with Drink Me Chai powder. Our instant chai is made by adding hot water to the powder, but the powder can be used for giving a chai flavour to smoothies, milkshakes, cakes, muffins, breads etc.
Chai is a delicious flavour and more and more people are getting a taste for it!!

I like the idea of a chai smoothie, something a little out of the ordinary. I haven’t tried chia in a smoothie, I’ll bet that thickens it up. Pinning…..
