Beauty Eats- Cranberry-apple poached pears

Poaching pears is a great way to make use of the beautiful pears we get during the fall. It brings out their sweetness and changes the texture, so they just about melt in your mouth. This recipe for pears poached in fruit tea is one of my favorites from the Flavour Fiesta magazine. Hope you enjoy it!

Beauty Eats- Grilled nectarine tart with orange-vanilla sauce

My friend Connie from “The Beauty Nerd” and I started a new series called “Beauty Eats” a few months ago. This week we have an easy nectarine tart. If you missed the earlier posts, you can find them in the “Discover” menu under “Food and Beauty”.

I adore fruit tarts – succulent fruit with creamy custard and flaky pastry is the perfect combination.  To change things up a bit, try these tarts with grilled nectarines. It’s the perfect dessert for a backyard BBQ since it doesn’t take long to put together. The best part is this recipe is a low fat version of the usual fruit tart. I’ve replaced the creamy custard with a deliciously light yogurt “cream”. Yum!

Banana bread with dates!

So what do you do when you have a bunch of extra ripe bananas lying on your counter-top? Banana bread! But you know me, the recipe has got to have a twist. This is a yummy banana bread with dates that is surprisingly healthy too!

I always end up buying too many bananas! After a few days, as they turn darker and darker, I wonder why I bought so many in the first place. Will I ever learn?

Milkshakes are a great way to use ripe bananas, but the best way in my opinion is to make banana bread. It’s something that will satisfy your sweet tooth at any time of the day, whether it’s dessert after dinner or breakfast with a glass of milk.

Creamy rice pudding with raisins and almonds

Rice pudding is a dish that is made all over the world with different variations. In India it’s known as kheer if it’s made with rice grains and phirni if it’s made with ground rice. In some countries in the Middle East, they use rice powder to make a dish called mahalabiya, which has a custard-like consistency. My recipe is inspired  by mahalabiya, but with more familiar Western flavours of cinnamon and raisins.

This is a quick and easy recipe which will definitely satisfy that sweet tooth! And to top that, it’s low fat (so feel free to indulge a little more.)

Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog.

I was so excited about my very first post that I couldn’t decide what to write. Should it be an appetizer, a dessert or something else? It’s one of the few ingredients you can use in anything – from soups and curries to decadent desserts – cinnamon conquers all.
