Spinach, cocoa and berry smoothie

Hello my lovely readers! Today, I’m sharing a delicious smoothie recipe that I also featured in my spring magazine. As you may have already noticed, I’m a HUGE fan of smoothies! And why is that? It’s because I’m usually lazy to have a proper sit-down breakfast in the morning, so a smoothie is a quick way to get all the nutrition I need to start my day. Today’s smoothie is rich in antioxidants and fibre. It’s also a great way to add some leafy greens to your diet without hiding them with sugar-laden fruit juices.

Hello hello! What plans do you have for the weekend? I’m working on the magazine this weekend (trying to finish the design), so I can start planning my photo shoots next week. Busy times ahead… So I wanted to make something quick and easy to start my day on the right foot. Here’s an anti-oxidant packed smoothie with an Indian twist. It’s got chai tea (who doesn’t love that!), cocoa powder for more anti-oxidants, chia seeds for fibre, probiotic yogurt, raw honey and my favourite ingredient – frozen bananas. Fibre…check! Fruit..check! Protein…check! And the taste…delicious!

Today’s Beauty Eats recipe is for all those ladies that need a BREAK. We’ve done a number of skin-friendly recipes on this series, but to make things interesting, today we’re making a DIY mask. So ladies, kick back and take some “me” time this week…

……………………………………………………

Connie (from Chronicles of a Beauty Nerd) and I have been busy preparing for our first Beauty Eats live event for the last few days. We’re really excited about it and hope to see a few of you there! And for those of you who can’t make it, we are going to try posting a video soon after. Now with all the preparation, I’ve been a little lax with my regular skincare routine. So, I wanted to take some time out today and just relax. One of my favourite ways to pamper myself at home is with a DIY face mask.  But, this isn’t just any face mask. It’s rich, it’s luxurious and it’s oh so chocolatey…and best of all, you can eat it too! Well…..only if you really want to…

Chipotle tomato chutney (with a hint of cocoa…)

I’ve always been intrigued by chutneys since they can have dozens of ingredients that blend together perfectly. For me the best part of making chutney is that there is no right or wrong way – just go with the flow and you never know what you’ll come up with! I’ve been meaning to make chutney for a while since I made my mango chutney, but never got around to it until today.  Since there have been so many beautiful tomatoes available in the market recently, I was inspired to create a tomato chutney (but with a twist of course!). This time my inspiration came from the Mexican flavours of chipotle chilli and cocoa.

Beauty Eats- Chocolate Yogurt Parfait with Strawberries

Have you ever thought about how food and beauty are linked? We have all heard our mothers tell us that we are what we eat, but have you ever eaten specific foods to improve your skin’s health?  This new series called “Beauty Eats” will explore foods rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids and probiotics that will leave you with a healthy radiance that is bound to get some attention!

My friend Connie and I came up with the idea of writing a series on “Beauty Eats” recently. She has an absolutely gorgeous blog (www.thebeautynerd.com) which has great tidbits about beauty things and inspirations.  Her approach to beauty is to start from within with a healthy diet.  I couldn’t agree more!  In the first of the series, we will start with a great breakfast item that’s both pretty to look at and will get your skin glowing!

Homemade granola with nuts, coconut, raisins and orange zest

I’m all for eating granola in the morning, but have you ever wondered how healthy store-bought granola really is? Depending on the brand, you may not be getting what you expect. Commercial granola can be loaded with unnecessary fat and sugar as well as preservatives. Why not try making it at home? It’s fast, easy and there are hundreds of different combinations you can try.

Perhaps you can make your own signature granola recipe if you want to get really creative! The basic recipe calls for rolled oats, sugar and some fat to make the flakes crispy. The add-ons are where you can get a little adventurous.  How about coconut, dried raspberries, goji berries, chocolate covered cocoa nibs or even dried mango? The possibilities are endless…
